agent-sponsors.txt

A small text file that lets a site set the rules for labelled ads shown by AI agents.

agent-sponsors.txt is a small text file a site publishes to say what AI agents may show there. It works the way robots.txt and ads.txt do. If the file is missing, or doesn't say sponsors: allowed, there are no ads on that site.

Where it goes

Publish it at /.well-known/agent-sponsors.txt on your domain, as plain text.

What agents must do

  • Read the file before showing any ad on a site.
  • Treat a missing file as no ads.
  • Stay inside its surfaces, categories and limits.
  • Keep every ad visible and labelled "Ad" or "Sponsored".

For what a venue does with the file day to day, see the venues page.
